Christianity the Only Means of Eternal Life?

"A recent survey conducted by LifeWay Research found that while a majority of Protestant pastors believe Christianity is the only way to obtain eternal life, there is a small percentage who strongly feel other religions offer eternal salvation as well.

The survey asked 1,000 Protestant pastors the question, "If a person is sincerely seeking God, he/she can obtain eternal life through religions other than Christianity."

Seventy-seven percent of the pastors questioned said that they strongly disagree with the statement and seven percent somewhat disagreed. Another seven percent somewhat agreed and five percent strongly agreed. Three percent said they are not sure.

The educational level of the pastor played a role in their decision making. Pastors with a graduate degree were more likely to strongly agree with the statement, and less likely to strongly disagree, compared to pastors with a bachelor's degree or less.

The study also found that evangelical Christians held stricter views on the. . ."

I know some people are pretty hard on Rich Warren, but I think he gives some pretty good answers at the end of this article.

I thought you might see that and post it. I believe as Scripture and Tradition attest Christ is the only way, but not necessarily Christianity.

If Christ is the only way (and He is!), and to be a Christian is to follow Christ so that Christianity is the descriptor of people who follow Christ, then how can there be salvation through any other way?

Christianity does not save people, God does. One does not have to be in Christianity to be saved, many muslims, hindus, etc, become saved and they are not in Christianity. After one gets saved they become Christians but it is not Christianity saving them

Okay...I understand the distinctions you are making. I don't particularly agree with them, but as you do, I can accept them.

Wow, I just found this thread. Since it was posted on my birthday, I thought I'd respond.
Christianity doesn't save anyone, Christ does.

    Greetings:

Seems to me,that Jesus has transmitted a facsimile of himself, and expects that his fellowship transmit back to him oneself
transformed into a facsimile of him.

    I agree
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
And He said that before Christianity even existed

Wrong answer!Christianity existed the very moment Jesus said...Matthew 4:19And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Question: Can a person follow the teachings of Christ by nature and never really hear about him.. Can a person, who is a non believer, live the lifestyle that Jesus taught be accepted by him?
