Thanks for the recommendation of authors, Other One. Reading is about the desired extent of my foray into the demonic realm. I also have had personal experience with the demonic realm (albeit a highly limited one, by the grace of God!), so I'm not willing to open any doors that the Lord has graciously shut. I tread that path of seeking knowledge very carefully, and realize that my only protection from any of it is the Lord. But I believe I need to know them in order to recognize the evil at work. Prayer has been my primary weapon in my fight against spiritual darkness.
Sorry for the hijack, Acquila.

No problem HB. I've been thinking on this some as well.
This verse came to mind:
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
(Mat 15:18-20 KJV)
You could say that the heart of every unsaved person is like an abyss.
Jesus didn't mince any words when he described the fall of man.
In a historical context it would be reasonable to say that the tower of Babel and Babylon came from the abyss because they came from the hearts of fallen men. The source of Paganism. Nothing of paganism has come from the Lord.

How about the river that flows from the Throne?
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
(Joh 7:38-39 KJV)
I didn't want to leave this only talking about something like the abyss.
But if a man doesn't not know he needs the Savior, then there is an abyss in him.
Who ever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Call on Jesus. He will save you and give you life eternal!
Any time, any place, he will hear you.
