Well, that's true. We see high profile death penalty cases everywhere, and all the time . . .

    Oh, wait. . .

There was some suspicion that came out when a day or so after the story that it had appeared to be 'set up'. It is strange that with all that protective gear he was wearing that he was caught.

I read somewhere that he was shocked that the police got there so quickly. Apparently he wasn't in a hurry to leave for he was not expecting police nearly as quick as they showed up.

I think he was hoping that one of his neighbors would set off the explosives in his apartment and then the police would have been occupied and unable to respond quickly. The neighbors said he never played his music loud, but that day it was blaring and when they went to his apartment to complain, the door was unlocked, they were just decent enough folks not to go in.

He booby-trapped his apartment in such a fashion that it would take out the entire block, and then he programmed his stereo to blast music at full volume at midnight. His downstairs neighbor decided to knock on his door and see if he would turn his radio down. Obviously, no one responded. She tried the doorknob and it turned, but something didn't feel right about it so she decided not to continue into the house - and in doing so, she saved her life and the lives of everyone in the area.

Apparently, his plan was for the police to show up, knock on his door, enter the home - thereby setting off the bombs - and have all of the Aurora emergency services rush to the scene of the fire whilst he shot up the movie theater. He was shocked because the emergency services were never called out, and the police (who were already at the theater to guard against rowdy movie-goers) were on the scene in about a minute after the shooting started.
