It was as a matter of fact. We correct our mistakes. Muslims and blacks are still continuing their mistakes, including feudal wars, slavery, oppression of their women, honor killings, etc. Yet you seem to love their ways and hate that we Christians are civilized. Now that baffles me.
Before we pat ourselves too much on the back for being the nicer race, we should remember that in medieval times, Jews fled to Muslim countries because they were often treated better there than in Christian countries.

And we should remember that millions of people who considered themselves good Christians assisted in the Holocaust. Evil exists in all cultures as does kindness and nobility. It is when we forget that, that we are most prone to evil.

Just saying...

Even in free states slavery was legal. Most slave owners were allowed to keep their slaves once the buying and selling of them was outlawed. I recently toured an old slave house in southern Illinois that served as a stop on the reverse underground railroad where they kidnapped free Blacks and sold them as slaves, and the owner of that kept 200 slaves to work in salt mines with a special exception permitting it until the 1840s. I think the reasoning for outlawing slavery was to be an economic attack on the south and it had little to do with any humanitarian concern.

The largest protestant church in the nation that many here have said they belong to withdrew from national organizations over criticism of slavery. They didn't allow Blacks in their congregations until the 1960s and didn't apologize for anything until 1995. There were really only two mainline churches that are around today that saw slavery as a moral issue. In 1784 Methodists started expelling members who bought and sold slaves and gave slave owners a year to free their slaves, but found the policy was unenforceable. In 1815 Presbyterians declared slavery immoral but left it to congregations to deal with slave owners. Baptists in Virginia and Kentucky tried to pass resolutions against slavery at their conventions between 1789 and 1791 but failed.

It seems like all the Christians that opposed slavery are the ones you don't like too much today.

Perhaps BB should re-write history to keep you happy then?
