A. Cleveland Coxe

Introductory notice to Hippolytus from the Ante-Nicene Fathers, vol. 5, American edition. In the first half, reacting in horror to Vatican I, the author is at pains to say that Hippolytus of Rome was not Roman, had no connection with Rome, and that the city of Rome is somehow impervious to catholic and orthodox faith. The second half deals with what little is known of Hippolytus, and discusses the authorship of the Refutation of All Heresies.
