Everyone is right about his/her perceptions on matters concerning him/her.

With ready made sermons, it depends on the individual. I am a pastor and do my own research and construct my own sermons with the guidance of the Holy spirit. During my study and research, I came across many sermons on the net. I do read them and interestingly, some were just like my other sermons. They don’t have the same wordings and format but the message and applications are similar?.

At times I used stories from other sermons which are applicable to my situation and acknowledge the source. Is this partly wrong or sinful for pastors?

To say boldly that, it is wrong to use ready made sermons is entirely depends on God the righteous judge. I am anxious to get to heaven to see the names of the doomed pastors and to see if they didn’t make it to the Kingdom because they preached posted sermons on the net???????

I agree with LP and SD. What is this world coming to that pastors need to get their notes from someone else? God has given them a calling to be pastors therefore He will also help them prepare for sermons. The excuse of Jimmy Dillon that he doesn’t always have time is a poor excuse. What about all the people who work full time and say they don’t have time to pray, read their Bible or have their own quiet time? It’s the same thing. Satan works in many ways to try and draw us away from what God wants us to do. Maybe Jimmy should think about why he has that 50 hr a week job as well. I believe that pastors should be dedicated to the church – that should be their main vocation. The church supports the pastor and God is always looking after you. As a pastor you are responsible for the growth of people in your church – why should you be getting notes from someone from this site? You don’t know who wrote the notes or even if they’re Christians or not. Make time to unbusy your life – have your quiet times, speak to God and listen. He will provide everything you need to bring to the church for the sermons.

I agree that : "Sermons should not be prepared with cliff notes. If all the research has already been done, where is the need for more than a superficial and cursory preparation by the pastor. The research by these websites is also just one person or some people’s point of view." My Site

I can agree with both of the comments above. However, on the other side of the coin, there are those of us that are pastors who are called and are serving and are bi-vocational. I myself pastor a church and have been at that church for over 11 years and have had a full-time 50 hour a week job the entire time. Not to mention that I have a full-time family of six that I also must take care of and then write two sermons a week, prepare for Sunday School and lead Wednesday night services. If you are a full-time pastor and that is your only responsibility, then you have plenty of time in sermon preparation, but for some of us, a site like this can be a real blessing to help. I do study, and I do pray over all of my messages. But if I can find a pastor or helps that have already laid out a message that is on my heart, why not use it and personalize it…I mean, isn’t God the author of all sermons anyways no matter who preaches them. Just my two cents worth.

I really support what Mr LP posted on3rd November 2008. There are people today who like things madely available for them…….instant gratification !!!……..like instant coffee, instant food and the list goes on. Pastoring is for the called ones and anyone wish to be part of that profession you need to think again because Pastoring is a COMMITMENT.

I am so totally against this concept of this service because this is a symptom of what is wrong in our society today. The instant gratification and short cuts for everything makes us value quantity over quality and it makes me sad to see this permeate church and religious life today. To me, this service is essentially dumbing down the sermon.
In my opinion, one of the greatest callings and duties of a pastor is to expound the word of God. Explain it. Encourage people through stories and experiences. Take a concept and research it. Pray on it. The work that comes out through such preparation is very evident in the conviction and involvement with which it is preached.It gives people something to meditate on, In a crisis. Or just because. It encourages faith. It makes the congregation more involved because a sermon thus prepared will flow from the person giving it.
Sermons should not be prepared with cliff notes. If all the research has already been done, where is the need for more than a superficial and cursory preparation by the pastor. The research by these websites is also just one person or some people’s point of view. A sermon written by a pastor ‘from scratch’ as it were will be unique. I would rather have a sermon without the pretty pictures and presentation with the depth of content that has been prepared with effort than a sermon taken with help from a website where more than half of the work is already done. In my opinion, a pastor who takes this kind of help will not show the kind of dedication and calling this kind of job needs. This kind of attitude where one goes through the motions and looks on it more as a job and not a calling is one of the reasons churches are losing people. Preaching the word of the living God is a privilege given only to a select few and I do not care how busy one is. A pastor’s job is not an ordinary one. It is being an emissary of the Lod. If a pastor cannot find the time to prepare a sermon without subscribing to websites that do half the work for them maybe they should look to what their priorities are or even if they are suited for the job.
